we have been reading a lot in the local blogosphere about this lady:

who

told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield Wednesday night and that the suspect began beating her after seeing a John McCain bumper sticker on her car.

Todd claimed that the mugger even cut a backwards letter “B” in her cheek.

for a few hours, she was a face for the conservative right to flaunt as evidence of liberal psychosis.  the victim also reported that the perp was ” a 6-foot-4 black man.”  word has it (i.e. a campaign aide told reporters) that both mccain and palin called ms. ashley todd to offer their condolences.

until she confessed last night that she made the whole thing up.

FOX news executive vice-prez had this to say:

“If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting.”
