i’m suffering from withdrawal.

all of my clothes are vintage/used/secondhand.  (with a few target basics thrown in for good measure.  and a few unique pieces sewn by my tailor mother-in-law.)  seattle is a virtual sea of vintage deliciousness.

red light.

bootyland.(all of eli’s clothes are from this lovely place – seriously)

atlas.

insurrection.

and.  buffalo exchange.  ah buffalo.

i love this place.  some skinny hipsters find it not “vintage” enough – as the chain relies on current brands as opposed to exclusively old-school finds for the bulk of their inventory.  but, every few months, i would paw through my closet, finding the things that were respectable enough to trade in for new things.  the high was unbelievable.  i could buy loads of new clothes with only a little sacrifice.  i was constantly mentally categorizing my wardrobe into “goodwill,” “keep forever,” and “buffalo.”

sigh.

but – we saw a commercial the other day for this place:  plato’s closet

it’s apparently opening up in the spotswood valley square shopping center on Rt. 33 – same place at TJ Maxx.

it seems to be the same concept as buffalo exchange – bring your gently used clothes in, have some person inspect it way too closely for signs of perspiration, moth holes, or dog hair, and then either get cold hard cash (not much) or store credit (maybe worth your time).  i’m not convinced, however, due to their line up of “most wanted” brands:

Abercrombie & Fitch
Aeropostale
American Eagle
Baby Phat
Banana Republic
Bebe
Billabong
Charlotte Russe
Ecko
Element
Express
Forever 21
Fox
Guess
Hollister
Hurley
J. Crew
Levi
Limited
Lucky Brand
Mossimo
Quicksilver
Rampage
Roxy
Seven
Silver
Steve Madden
Wet Seal
And Many More….

hmmm. suspicious.
we’ll see. any opinions?
rumor has it that there is a buffalo exchange in philly and NYC. maybe i’ll just have to compile my “buffalo” piles for quarterly visits up north.

There is indeed a Buffalo Exchange in Philadelphia. It’s on Chestnut between 17th & 18th, I think.
