one of our favorite spot for both local and exotic, (not to mention, CHEAP) foods , harrisonburg’s “oriental food market” has a great, new (to us, at least) egg supplier. i talked with them on the phone today; they said paul helbert brings 10 dozen eggs fresh from his farm two or three times a week.
so, sometimes they run out, but check back–these brown eggs are worth the trip, and as michael pollan would say, they’ve got some great “muscle tone.”
and, my last trip to the market shows why localism is a great depression-buster:
a 2″ stack of fresh, harrisonburg-made tortillas,
two ripe avocados,
a big bunch of cilantro,
a dozen helbert eggs,
and a tall candle that promises “jinx removing, health & wealth, love, money, peace, success, fast luck, protection from evil, and power”
all of it together cost me barely 10 bucks.
